Full house for networking day 7 October 2017

20171007_networking_event_posterAll spaces for organisations at the networking day being organised by Kings Heath Residents’ Forum are now taken. As a result, local residents will be able to talk to a wide range of organisations that provide help, advice and support.

Among those present will be local councillors and representatives from the Moseley and Kings Heath Neighbourhood Team of West Midlands Police. Others such as Friends of Kings Heath Park, Highbury Community Orchard and Lifford Lane Community Project will be explaining their work as well as recruiting members. In addition, organisations such as All Saints Centre and Friends of Kings Heath Community Centre will be offering activities for a variety of age groups.

A full list of participating groups will be published next week.

There is no charge for the networking day – all residents need to do is to walk in, join in and benefit from all the information that will be available.

Free bike application process open

Residents can now apply for a free bike as part of the Big Birmingham Bikes programme. Birmingham City Council has announced that 2,000 adult bikes will be given away. The announcement says that priority will be given to families who plan to cycle together. A child’s bike bank will be launched later in the year.

In order to qualify for a free bike, people must live within an eligible postcode. You can check whether your postcode is eligible here. (There is a postcode checker at the bottom of the page.) The page also explains the other requirements that must be fulfilled before you can qualify for a free bike.

The list of organisations taking part in the networking event being organised by Kings Heath Residents’ Forum on 7 October 2017 continues to grow. The day is being organised to give residents the chance to find out about groups that provide help, advice and support. A range of groups will have displays at the event. Local people will be able to move around, gathering information on subjects that interest them.

Age UK and Moseley and Kings Heath Shed have already been featured as participants. One of the other groups that’s expected to attract attention is Moseley and Kings Heath neighbourhood Policing team. Members of the team will be present to discuss issues of concern to local people.

The newly formed Friends of Kings Heath Park will also be present, explaining how residents can get involved in making Kings Heath Park a family-friendly, community green space for future generations.

There is no charge for the networking day – all people need to do is to walk in, join in and benefit from all the information that will be available.

Networking event – sources of help and support

The networking event being organised by Kings Heath Residents’ Forum on 7 October 2017 will give local people the chance to find out about organisations offering advice, help and support in the area. Most of the spaces for organisations have already been filled although there are still a few available.

Among the first to confirm attendance was Age UK which provides help for older people. The range of advice and support includes information on the benefits individuals are entitled to, how to find help at home and guidance  on health conditions. If you, an elderly friend or relative needs help or support, Age UK representatives will be on hand to explain what the organisation does.

Members of Moseley and Kings Heath Shed will also be at the event, explaining what the organisation does and how older men and women in the area can join in the activities. The Shed itself, in Kings Heath Park, is a fully equipped workshop providing the tools needed for woodwork, metal-work and working with glass. Again, representatives will be at the networking day to explain how people can benefit from taking part in the Shed’s activities.

The event will also include youth groups, fitness groups, the Police and local Councillors.

New bus lane enforcement cameras in Birmingham

Motorists driving in bus lanes on the Lichfield Road, Tyburn Road and Pershore Road after Monday 4 September 2017 will run an increased risk of a fine. That’s the date when new bus lane enforcement cameras go live.

Anybody caught driving in those bus lanes during September will receive a warning letter. If they are caught after 2 October 2017, they will receive a £60 fixed penalty notice.

Councillor Stewart Stacey, Cabinet Member for Transport and Roads at Birmingham City Council, said, ‘This isn’t about trying to catch people out. I want everyone to know exactly where these cameras are so that they keep out of the bus lanes, rather than having to pay a fine.’
